The Philippino Jeepney...

Philippino Jeepney
The "jeepney" is the Filipino version of the "jitney," the taxi/minibus that travels along a fixed route, found in many
countries. Legend has it that these stretched jeep/buses are built from WWII surplus jeeps. |

The
rich easterly currents that flow through the Philippines
have nurtured in her reefs a vast array of tropical marine life. The Philippine Islands lie due north of the Indonesian Archipelago where
the greatest diversity of marine life exists. The Philippine Archipelago is composed of 7,107 islands. The people of the Philippines are some
of the friendliest on the planet. The diving fraternity in the Philippines has benefited from a burgeoning infrastructure in the smaller island
destinations, the proliferation of liveaboards which explore the Sulu Sea and the retreat of the US military, leaving once off-limits areas
open to the public

Sulu Sea
The Sulu Sea is arguably the premiere live aboard destination in the Philippines, it encompasses a wide body of water that is bound in the North by Cuyo Islands, on the West the mainland of Palawan, on the East is the Island of Panay and on the South, Cagayan de Sulu. This area cover numerous
dive spots, the largest and most popular of which are the Tubbataha Reefs. These small tropical Pacific Atolls have vast shallow reefs and
plunging walls where large marine animals come to feed and breed. There are numerous overhangs, caves and ledges and the walls are covered with
fan corals and barrel sponges. Visibility will often exceed 100ft and when the current is running one can expect to see plenty of Sharks,
Tuna, Manta rays, Jacks. These Atolls are not only a nesting ground for turtles but provide home for numerous terns, boobies and frigate
birds. Other equally exciting dive spots are Jessie Beasley, Basterra, Bancoran and Arena.
Cebu / Bohol
Cebu one of the popular islands in the Philippines offer the perfect venue for both novice and experienced divers. Blessed with year round
tropical weather, Cebu is fast becoming a favorite destination for divers looking for crystal clear water, endless variety of macro subjects and
walls that drop down to eternity. Off the Cebu mainland are numerous islets to the North such as Capitancillo. Bohol, toward the south of
Cebu the most popular dive sites are in Bohol such as Balicasag island, Cabilao and Panglao. Dive trips likewise venture to the western coast
of Cebu to visit Pescador Island and Moalboal. Because of its central location, Cebu and Bohol area serves as a springboard to explore the
numerous divesites within the Visayan region of the Philippines.
Busuanga & Apo Reef
Busuanga lies in northern Palawan, it is composed of numerous islands and atolls many of which have not been dived. Of prime interest in this
area is the presence of more than thirty (30) Japanese shipwrecks from World War II. Twelve (12) of these wrecks are accessible to sport divers.
These wrecks lie in 30 - 140 feet of water and present the largest concentration of shipwrecks in one area in the Philippines. Not to be missed is the
top side beauty of the Busuanga Islands, characterized by limestone cliffs, these area offers dramatic scenery and features numerous coves
and lagoons that have remained untouched. Apo reef offers Vertical drop-offs, deep blue waters and pelagic species. White sand beaches and salt water lakes. Apo Reef is a huge off-shore reef system that offers endless sites for wall and drift diving. One can expect to see large marine
creatures such as Tuna, Mackerel, Rays and Sharks. To the west of Apo reef lies HUNTERS ROCK, an underwater pinnacle that provide real blue
water diving. Again, there is abundance of pelagic species with large nurse sharks commonly found inside caves and ledges.

There are two pronounced seasons in the Philippines; the dry season (from March to May) and the rainy season (from June to February). Tropical
depressions affect parts of the country from June to October, especially in the so called "Typhoon Belt" from Southern Luzon to the
Visayas. Between storms, the weather is often quite balmy for long periods. December through February are the coolest months. Average temperature
is 22.3°C
humidity is 77%
