Vietnam is not yet a very well known dive destination but it has already attracted a steady crowd of loyal divers. Best diving can be found at
Whale Island. Highlights of diving here is indeed its underwater diversity: the South China sea's colorful fishes, hard and soft corals, shells and
nudibranches are definitely worth a visit. Diving is also very affordable in Vietnam. You can encounter strange underwater lunar mooncapes, whale
sharks, giant moray eels and there are some interesting caves to explore as well. All in all a very exiting destination with excellent Vietnamese/French
food to provide you with plenty of energy to see it all!

Madonna rock
A great coral dive with two swim throughs and a slope down to 25 m with giant Porcupine fish, small Moray Eels and the occasional Sting Rays.
Moray Beach & Moray rock
Shallow dive with strange rock formations, beautiful colorful corals, and interesting sea-life. From 3 to 18 m it makes a very good "second
dive dive of the day" and a good place for open water courses. The dive starts on the sand where you can see Scorpion Fishes, Lion
Fishes, Clown Fishes, rare Black Frog Fish and White Frog Fish. The dive continues on a good coral reef with the Moray Cave. You can spot
Giant Moray Eels here up to 2-2,5 m long and you will also find the Black Spotted Moray Eel here.
Black tunnel
A very unique dive that makes you feel you are in a scene from Startrek. There is a volcanic bottom with strange pointy rocks (a true lunar landscape). It is not very colorful but very dramatic dive. The dive includes three caves (for advanced divers only) the first at 18 m, the second is a
large swim through at 15 m, and the last "the black tunnel" is at 10 m but is 25-30 m in length. You'll find many different Nudibranches,
Spider-crabs, Mantis shrimps, Lobsters and many mini shrimps.
Coral garden
A beautiful coral carpet at 3-16 m that stretches for hundreds of meters long. You'll see very colorful, big table corals, needle corals, and
even a Whale Shark! Some beautiful Clown Fishes and Butterfly Fishes. Some kinds of Gobies (Puellaris, Albimaculatus) and Blennies (Midas,
Bicolor). A very good place for open water courses.
Small wall and Fishermen's Bay
Occasional sighting of sharks, rays and other big critters, usually both sites can be seen within one dive. The wall is a 25 m straight
drop, with many cracks and sea-life living in them. Fishermen's Bay has a huge net cutting it into 2 parts, with many corals and smaller
fish. This dive consists of a drop of 18 m and a slope to 25 m. A big rock at 20 m covered with rare green coral (Tubastrea Microntha) and
orange coral (Tubastrea Aurea). A quantity of black and red Lion Fishes, Bat Fishes, Longfin Banner Fishes (Heniochus). And sometimes a rare
Frog Fish.
The Cave
A nice reef starting at 5 m and slowly descents to 22-25 m. The open cave (swim through) is from 9 to 6 m in depth. During the dive you can
see Nudibranches, Lion Fishes, Cowries (Ovula Ovum), Octopus, Triger Fishes, Parrot Fishes and beautiful Clown Fishes. There are also Christmas
trees (Spirobranchus) and Feather Stars (Crinoides).
Big wall
A deep dive with many of the larger critters. A vertical drop of 20 to 35 m. An incredible quantity of soft coral (Dendronephthya) with a great
variety of colors. Some big fishes (Groupers, Jacks, Parrot Fishes, Stingrays), Angel Fishes, Lion Fishes and Butterfly Fishes.
South Reef
From 6 to 25 m. Nice coral reef at 6 m, a small wall to 15 m. Very good coral especially Acropora. You'll find different Coral Fishes and it is the best place for some kinds of Shrimps: White Banded Cleaner Shrimps (Amboinensis), Cleaner Shrimps (Antonbruunii), Hingebeak Shrimps (Durbanensis) and the beautiful Periclimenes Longicarpus on the coral Sinuosa.
Hon Trau Nam
From 10 to 35 m. A beautiful dive site good for almost 10 dives. You'll find some big fishes: Manta Ray, Eagle Ray, Sting Ray and Jacks along
the drop of giant rocks. On the bottom 25-35 m, there are colorful soft coral and the very rare Black Coral (Antipathes Dichotoma). Everywhere
you can see Nudibranches and Opisthobranches, some giant Angel Fishes like Pomacanthus Annularis and P. Xanthometopon ; also the yellow Trimaculatus with their blue lips and the P. Imperator. At about 10 m there is a small old wreck and around you can see the biggest Stone Fish and Scorpion Fish... on one side of these rocks it is sometime possible to do a drift dive.
Hon Kho Trang
From 10 to 30 m. A small island where you can find giant hard coral Acropora and quantity of Nudibranches, some really very big (15 to 20
cm). Also some interesting swim throughs.
Hon Tai From 5 to 27 m. A real coral garden at 12 m. Some walls on the giants
rocks with colorful soft coral and of course some different nudibranches and beautiful clown fishes.

The dive season in Vietnam starts in late January and ends in October (the rest of the time it's the rainy season and the visibility is 5 meters and
the clubs are all closed). Best months for diving are April and May when the visibility goes up to 30-40 m and the sea is calm. "High
season" is July and August with visibility of 15-25 m and a usually calm sea as well.
