Our Diver's Tale this month... Dahab, Egypt
Dahab, Red Sea, Egypt Among the conoisseurs, Dahab is famous for its dive sites, accessible from shore,
among the most notorious is the Blue Hole. Dahab is the Arabic word for gold, and it is almost certain that this locale in eastern Sinai
derived its name from the fine yellow sand that colors its beaches. Dahab has a growing loyal following. The combination of soft sand, gorgeous
blue water, excellent diving and the option of Camel Safaris is pulling in the world.
We stayed three months and could have stayed two years! Diving is for all levels and easy and requires no planning; you just have a taxi driver
take you to the desired site. And there are many to choose from: the Canyon with its unique fish bowl, the deep and dangerous Blue Hole,
the never ending Caves...
 If
you’re keen on combining underwater exploration with an overland adventure there’s also a range of safari’s that leave Dahab daily. Camel diving safari’s led by local Bedouin are unique to Dahab. They take
you to the remote Ras Abu Galum or Gabr El Bint for exquisite diving
and sleeping under the desert stars.
The village of Dahab is located in South Sinai about 100Km north of Sharm El Sheikh,
looking on the west coast of Gulf of Aquaba.
There are more then 22 dive shops in Dahab ranging from a simple to a fairly
luxurious dive resorts and you can sleep in one of the many camps available. Dive Global recommends Nesima Resort if you are looking to dive in comfort and style.
By Air: Direct flights several times a week from most European Capitals to Ras Nasrani airport Sharm el Sheikh, about 85Km south of Dahab, or
connecting from Cairo Airport.
By Car: About 600Km from Cairo via Suez desert road through Ahmed Hamdi tunnel crossing the Suez canal then heading south parallel to
Gulf of Suez to Ras Sudr, El Tor and Sharm El Sheikh, then heading north through the mountains and valleys to Dahab.
By Bus: From Cairo bus station off El Abasseya Square, or from Sharm El Sheikh. Dahab is easily accessible from most major cities in
Egypt. There are regular bus services that arrive at the main bus station in Dahab city. Dahab is also easily accessible from Israel. The beach
resort is 140 km south of the Taba border.
