La Ciutat, as the Mallorquines call their capital, will impress you from the moment you arrive to its port: yachts, palms and the impressive the cathedral.
The catheral is probably the most distinctive landmark of Palma. The cathedral was constructed from the 14 to 19 century. The highly creative Antoni Gaudí designed its interior and the results are fascinating and original at the same time, almost impossible to describe with words.
History and modernity seem to melt together with the deep blue of Mediterranean sea as a backdrop.
Approximately 320.000 people live here, about half of the island's total population.
Palma's old town is full of little alleyways, old mansions and lively bars to explore. I also noticed an amazing number of excellent shoe shops! Accommodation is plentiful on this island. I suggest staying at Hotel Tres in a renovated 16th. century building or if you want very hip go to the Puro Hotel. Don't forget to spend an afternoon at their sister property Puro Beach, a fun hangout, about 10 minutes by taxi from the center of town.
Don't miss taking the amazingly picturesque wooden single-gauge Soller railway from the capital of Palma all the way to the coastal resort town
of Soller. From there you can reach Deià and Valdemossa, as well as a lot of qaint rural towns and villages and deserted coves and beaches.
If you are on Dragonera it is well worth to visit the village of Randa in the Center of the island, which is home to a 13th Century monastery and a traditional Mallorcan café called the Cellar Bar. It is highly popular with the locals and serves some first class cuisine. On the east coast there are also some astounding cave systems such as the Ceuvas del Drach, where amazing stalactite and stalagmites have formed over thousands of years in extensive underground chambers.

Avoid the islands in the summer unless you like extreme heat and lots of partying crowds and package tourists. The best season in these islands is spring, with temperatures warming up in April and not a lot of people through June. By November and on through into April the weather is less reliable, so diving can be too windy and choppy.
Mallorca has a semi tropical climate. Sea temperatures vary from around 26°C (79°F) in August to 13°C (55°F) in January. In November and June you can expect a temperature of about 18°C (64°F). The visibility ranges from 10 - 40 metres (30 - 130 feet). In the summer 30 to 40 metres (100 - 130 feet) of visibility can be expected at most sites.
In July and August a 3mm full length wetsuit will be a comfortable option, for the rest of the holiday season a semidry should be enough. If you dive out of season (November to April), you will probably want to use a drysuit.

You can fly to Palma de Majorca from almost every major airport in Europe. From the US it is possibly the easiest to fly through Madrid on Iberia. Otherwise fly into London and take one of the low-cost airlines like Easyjet or Ryanair. During the summer months there are many charter airlines from European capitals that offer excellent deals.
If you are diving Isla Dragonera for a few days, its best to St. Elm. Ask Scuba Activa for an accommodation suggestion.
If you want to visit other Balearic islands like Ibiza or Formentera you can take the inter-island ferry routes that are operated by Trasmediterránea and Baleária. There are also flights between the islands but they tend to be expensive and book up in advance.
