Charlotte: Now please tell us about these exciting safaris you have on offer!

Said & Tanis: The Camel Diving Safaris are unique adventures you won't find anywhere else in the world!

Much of the coast north and south of Dahab is accessed mainly (or only) by camel. The coral reef lines the entire coastline, and is particularly special at Ras Abu Galoum and Ras Mammlah in the north, and Gabr El Bint in the south. We have special permission to dive these wonderful sites, and to spend our nights sleeping under the stars. At Ras Abu Galoum we enjoy the hospitality of the local Bedouin fishing families, staying in their simple beach huts and diving a pristine coral garden. Turtles and octopus are common here. Ras Mammlah is a very different diving experience - drift diving along a canyon and cave system. At Gabr El Bint there is nothing but the mountains, the sea and the coral reef. We do 2 drift dives along the wall, then dive a small blue hole and the canyon at Gabr El Bint. There is a valley of gorgonian fan corals here that stretches as far as the eye can see.

Camels, jeeps, Bedouin tents and meals, and sweet mint tea on the beach before and after we dive - this is a diving the Sinai way!

Charlotte: is it easy to ride the camels?

Tanis: Yes, much easier than riding a horse! You just sort of plonk yourself on top and amble along the beach. The camels pretty much know the way themselves, plus the camel guides are alongside making sure they don't misbehave! The view from the top of a camel is wonderful, so make sure you have your camera around your neck and not tucked in your bag!

Charlotte: Tanis, I hear you are Canadian. How did you end up in Dahab?

Tanis: Like all the foreigners living here, I came to Dahab for a diving holiday and felt immediately at home. I came again and again, for longer each time, until I finally decided to give up my advertising job in London and set up Desert Divers with Said. It wasn't a difficult decision. I was getting bored of the city life - lots to do but no time to do it! - and wanted to have my own travel related business.

I was thinking about returning to my home in Canada to start a trekking company when Said
mentioned that he was ready to start his own place.Well, there is nobody better to work

The Desert -Divers Team
with in the Sinai than Said, so away we went! We've brought together a group of people who love the Sinai - the diving, the desert and the Bedouin culture - and who love to share it with visitors.

Charlotte: Any parting words for our readers?

Said: After growing up in the Nomad life, and coming to Dahab with little tourism experience, I have realized my dive dream – Desert Divers. And I am happy, welcoming my friends and helping anyone who would love to see Dahab and the Sinai. Come and visit, it will be an experience you'll never forget!

Thank you Said and Tanis!
