Photo one: Green Coral and Goby, Bommie off Bowls Reef, Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Photo two: Cuddlefish, Sydney, North Head, Australia

Digital Camera: Olympus c5060 in a pt020 housing. No external strobe used; only in-camera flash with diffuser.

Photo one: "I have always been fascinated with Green Tree coral (Tubastrea micrantha - for further info click here), a branched hard coral. Each branch has a knobby appearance, yet from each knobby structure a delicate, almost rose-like bud emerges and 'blooms', usually at night. The color of the branches appears jet black in lower light, but when hit with a camera's flash, its true color, a deep, deep green is exposed. Contrasted to the lighter color of the blooms, this is truly one of the more beautiful corals on the reef. This particular shot had a small red Goby attempting to appear camouflaged against the green of the branch - and it was, until the flash illuminated its true color of bright red. This was a night shot at Aims Reef, east of Townsville, Queensland. c5060 camera, in-camera flash only; 2 shots taken to capture this one."

The second photo titled 'Nudi-cuddle', was taken at the foot of the 150 foot cliffs off Sydney's (Australia) North Head (at harbor entrance). The dive site is locally known as 'Old Man's Hat'; we were trying out our new 18 foot dive platform for the first time! Shot at 18m, the nudibranchs were in a small hollow on the side of a large boulder. I shot only this image since I saw that I had captured the shot I wanted first go.

Underwater Film Festival It is the Academy Awards for Underwater Photographers and film-makers. Instead of an Oscar, you win a Golden Fin.
