Cuttlefish.
Date taken: May 2003. Depth: 4-5m. Location: Ko Libong, Trang province, Thailand.
Digital Camera: Olympus C40 with Olympus housing.
"A girlfriend and I were diving the east side of Ko Libong, examining the
surroundings for nudibranch (I had discovered a species of slugs that were
thought to have been lost for 150 years, in the previous year near the same
locale, and therefore developed quite a mania for the little things) when we
chanced upon the sleeping cuttlefish. An errant wave roused the animal from
his slumber, and like the nice young man that he was, he promptly blushed
and tried to beat a quick retreat. I was riveted by the undulating colors
and form, so out popped the cammy. With a few deft moves (well, at least I
would like to think that they were deft!), I had a new picture to adorn my
walls!"

The Festival Mondial de l'Image Sous-Marine is probably the longest
established underwater photographic competition in the world, celebrating
its 32th edition this year.
