Diving in the crystal waters of El Ebano in Cuba is an unforgettable experience. The immediate display of unique staghorn coral full of yellow snappers was startling and beautiful.
Swimming through the immense canyon, I was surrounded by a crowd of extraordinary guitar sharks each measuring about three meters long. The reef is also rich with various kinds of Caribbean reef fish, corals and a diversity of sponges.
Another highlight of this dive site is the cave in which light filters through holes in the rock and creates stunning ripple effects; it is an extremely surreal atmosphere. The colours within the cave shift dramatically as you dive deeper to where the spotted lobsters and nudibranchs dwell.
This dive is advisable for expert divers as the entry and exit point is quite challenging and the depth can vary from 35 to 50 meters.
