Maaya Thila is one of the most popular sites in the Maldives, and for good reason. This world class dive site features a large pinnacle teeming with reef life where divers are able to spot laid back turtles casually grabbing a bite to eat surrounded by an array of colours. With caves, overhangs and plenty of reef to explore, not to mention dozens of white tip reef sharks at any given time, divers are assured a good experience and may even be treated to a sighting of the mysterious guitar shark.
You’ll have the opportunity to spot the elegant moorish idol and colourful parrot and trigger fish, you’ll want to take your underwater camera along for this pleasant dive. Easily reached by boat and not often troubled by strong currents, take your time to look out for a variety of butterfly fish and angel fish as well as menacing barracuda and grey reef sharks. For those who like to get up close and personal with the smaller creatures that inhabit this area, there are plenty of interesting looking nudibranchs to be seen. Giant frog fish can come in all shapes, sizes and colours at this dive site and can grow up to 38 cm.
