Only 15 mins by boat from Layang Layang Resort, The Valley is not your typical Layang Layang dive, because it is quite flat and fairly shallow which makes it perfect for beginners as well as more experienced divers. Starting with a slight slope down to about 15m, the view slowly unveils a beautiful living reef with hard and soft coral formations, crevices and overhangs.
Macro enthusiasts can see a colourful variety of creatures like seahorses, pipefish, starfish, nudibranchs, flatworms, and cuttlefish nestling inside the corals by the inner lagoon and also find a variety of shellfish like crabs, lobsters and shrimp hiding in the coral and rock crevices. The reef bottom is covered in abundant and dense patches of anemones, and if lucky, you might spot an unusual golden anemone amongst them. Beware the defensive titan triggerfish, they may attack if you get too close to their nests!
The outer edges of the reef is inhabited by turtles, sweetlips, surgeonfish and groupers, and you’ll see barracudas, fusiliers and skinners swimming in big schools here. The best times to dive here are between March and October, and with excellent viz as far as 40m, it’s possible to see large pelagic fish like hammerhead and reef sharks cruising near the reefs.
