Known in the diving world as one of the more impressive coral garden sites, Wrasse strip is just 20 mins away by boat from Layang Layang Resort and is best visited between February and October. With depths starting from 5m down to 40m, this shallow reef garden is ideal for new and intermediate divers with its mild currents and perfect viz ranging from 20 to 40m offers amazing photographic opportunities.
Teeming with multi-coloured soft and hard coral, sponges, sea fans and unusual rock formations, these are guarded by a fantastic variety of sea life such as barracudas, jacks, triggerfish and surgeons. One species of triggerfish to look out for especially is the Titan trigger, and you can find pretty sweetlips, soldierfish and batfish living inside the caverns of Coral bommies, as well as scores of wrasse varieties like the sling jaw, humphead and red cheek wrasse.
Wrasse Strip is basically a cleaning channel, which is why you can encounter not just smaller species like unicornfish, barracudas, jacks and turtles hanging across the strands of coral, but you can also see hundreds of large pelagic predators such as whitetip sharks, hammerhead sharks and schools of manta rays getting cleaned up by the wrasse!
