Tanjung Bira is definitively one of the deserted tourist spots in Sulawesi. The Cape of Tanjung Bira is well known for the sharks, rays and other pelagic and its strong and dangerous currents. With white sandy beach, blue crystal water reflection, beautiful landscape, blue color gradation of the sea color, amazing submarine creatures living underwater, and a moderate waving tide, Bira Beach is a heaven for travelers and divers. There are also two beautiful islands just in front of this beach, Goat Island and Liukang Loe Island. Liukang Island is well known for its sandy ocean floor containing brilliant coral heads with excellent macro life and the aptly named shark point. Diving in Liukang Loe Island is a great opportunity to see sharks, jacks, dogtooth tuna, schools of barracuda and surgeonfish. There are more than 50 dive sites around Liukang Loe Island and almost all of them are world class diving.

Liukang Loe Island is located across Tanjung Bira, Bulukumba, South Sulawesi. It is about 5-6 hours from Makassar downtown to reach Tanjung Bira. The provincial capital Makassar has an international airport called Sultan Hasanuddin Airport. It is well served by domestic airports from Jakarta and most of other major cities in Indonesia. You can also take an international flight from Singapore and Malaysia. From the airport, you can take public transportation such as taxi, “pete-pete” or bus to reach Terminal Malengkeri. From there, you can proceed to Tanjung Bira by getting another public transport such as car or bus. Liukang Loe Island is located very closed to the west side of Tanjung Bira Beach, where you can rent a boat to get there.

The beauty of the island is very charming, with the white clean beach. This is a perfect place for snorkeling lovers. This island is one of the famous underwater heavens in the world that attract local and international tourist for diving or snorkeling. There are two main diving sites around the area, which are Tab Buntuleng and Shark Point. With an average depth of 25 meters and weak currents, Tab Buntuleng is a great diving spot for beginners.

The visibility here is good, around 25 meters, where you can see large pelagic like Trevallies, Snapper, Fusiliers, Sweetlips, Tuna, Spanish Mackerel. There are also a variety of marine lives around here such as Butterfly, Cardinal, Angel, Grouper, Damselfish, Anthias, batfish, Wrasse, Parrot, Surgeon, Trigger, Box, Puffer, Porcupine, Octopus, Shrimp, Crab, Cutlefish, Nudibranch, Flat Worm and Shell. This is also a good place to see dolphins as they are often seen swimming around here. Shark Point is another diving spot that is more suitable for experienced divers as the currents can be strong at times. With the same visibility and depth as Tab Buntuleng, this is a great place to see a group of sharks. Black Tip Shark, White Tip Shark and Whale Shark are often seen here. Diving in Liukang Loe Island is great for either beginner or experienced divers.

Exploring the underwater paradise at Liukang Loe Island area, you will find a whole new world in under sea with colorful coral and cave. This is the place where you can swim together with the big croups, mantas, the big turtle and shark. While you are there, you can also get some attractions from the local fishing village on Liukang Loe Island, which is occupied by Buginese people from Konjos tribe.
