The Black Velvet Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus melanosoma) is a tropical fish species that is a member of the ‘Angelfishes’ family Pomacanthidae. It can be found occurring in the warm tropical waters of the Western Pacific and its distribution includes the waters of Indonesia, Philippines and Papua New Guinea. It can be found on coral and rocky reefs generally in depths of 10 to 40 metres. This species is easily recognised by it black coloured body with a pale grey area at the front and a yellow margin on dorsal, anal and caudal fins. The face also has yellow colouration. The Black Velvet Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus melanosoma) grows to a maximum length of approximately 20cm.
