The ascidian Polycitor giganteus can be found in the temperate waters of southern Australia and is known to occur from Port Hedland in Western Australia around to Mooloolabah in Queensland. It also occurs in the waters of northern Tasmania. It is easily recognised by its firm gelatinous body that has tubular zooids within its transparent body. The zooids are either orange or white and look like spherical lines extending from the centre of the mass. When disturbed they retract into the centre. Polycitor giganteus grows to a maximum height of approximately 30cm.
