The Purple Red Flabellina (Flabellina poenicia) is a small colourful aeolid nudibranch that belongs to the family Flabellinidae. This species can be found in the waters of south eastern Australia and is known to occur from South Australia around to Port Stephens on the NSW mid north coast. It is also found in the waters of Tasmania. It is not considered to be a common species however its small size means it may often be overlooked by divers.
This species is similar in appearance to Flabellina rubrolineata. The body is generally translucent purple with orange coloured cerata that have purple coloured tips. The Purple Red Flabellina (Flabellina poenicia) is known to feed on hydroids and grows to a maximum length of approximately 2cm.
