The Snake Sea Cucumber (Synapta maculata) is also commonly referred to as the ‘Spotted’ or ‘Banded’ Sea Cucumber.

Distribution: Tropical Indo-Western Pacific

Features: Long slender body worm like body that is ribbed. The colour is variable but is generally cream-grey with brown to black bands.

Habitat: Sandy bottoms and amongst seagrasses

Depth range: Low tide to 20 metres.

Maximum Length: Can stretch to approximately 1.5 metres.

Family: Synaptidae
