Kota Kinabalu, in earlier times, was originally known as the town of Jesselton. The town was destroyed during the second world war, and transformed into a new city in 1967, a few years after the war has ended. Kota Kinabalu is a resemblance of a typical city, with main roads along the coastline which provides direct access to the sea. The city features a number of interests worth visiting, such as the state museum and mosque, as well as the famous Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park which can be reached within 20 minutes by speed boat. Occupying an approximate area of 50 acres, the park comprises 5 islands surrounded with spectacular beaches and complete with diving and snorkeling facilities.
